Electrical Work From Our Home Base

Justin Purdey Electrical operates out of 14 Fairtrader Drive, which makes us about as local as electricians in the Clarence Valley get. We started here in December 2023 and the work has stayed close to home: holiday units needing ceiling fans replaced between bookings, older beachside homes where salt air has worked on the wiring, and businesses along the main strip that need lighting, power and data sorted without closing for a day.

Everything is carried out under Contractors Licence No. 402413C, and we take calls 24 hours a day, so a fault at 9pm doesn't have to become a problem for the whole weekend. Call 0402 162 184 and we'll arrange a time that suits.

Residential Electrical in the Clarence Valley

Homes accumulate electrical jobs slowly. A light fitting fails and gets left, a power board appears behind the television, and the ceiling fan that stopped working two summers ago never gets looked at.

We work through that list rather than treating each item as a separate callout, which usually saves both time and money. Our residential work covers lighting replacements and installations, ceiling fans, additional power points, dedicated circuits for appliances, renovation and extension wiring, data cabling and outdoor or shed power.

Older properties get particular attention, because the original wiring was designed for a fraction of the load a modern household puts through it. We'll tell you what needs doing now and what can reasonably wait.

Commercial Electrical in the Clarence Valley

Trading premises can't afford to lose power during opening hours, and most electrical problems in a business start small enough to fix well before they get that far.

We wire fit-outs and refits, upgrade lighting to LED, add circuits for new equipment, install data cabling and carry out the routine checks that keep boards, RCDs and exit lighting in working order. Cafés, retail spaces, offices, salons and rental premises all sit within what we handle.

Because we're available around the clock, work that would disrupt trading can often happen after close instead. If a job needs coordinating with a builder or a shopfitter, we'll work to their program rather than asking everyone else to work around us.

Industrial Electrical in the Clarence Valley

Workshops, sheds and light industrial buildings put a different kind of demand on an electrical installation. Motors draw heavily on startup, compressors cycle throughout the day, and lighting runs for entire shifts, so circuits have to be sized for peak demand rather than average use.

We install and repair three-phase supply, run dedicated machinery circuits, fit high-bay and task lighting and install underground cabling between buildings and outbuildings. Persistent breaker tripping is one of the more common reasons we get called out, and it usually traces back to a circuit that was never rated for what's now plugged into it. Sub-boards in detached buildings are another regular request, since they let you isolate circuits without shutting down the main supply.

Switchboard Upgrades in the Clarence Valley

An old switchboard quietly limits everything connected to it. Ceramic fuses, no safety switches and no spare space mean that adding an air conditioner, a workshop circuit or a car charger simply isn't possible without replacing the board first.

An upgrade swaps fuses for circuit breakers, puts RCD protection on every circuit and builds in room for whatever gets added later. We assess the incoming supply and the condition of the circuits behind the board at the same time, since a new board on tired wiring only solves half the problem. Once the board is live, we test every circuit and certify the installation, and you get the paperwork confirming it meets the current wiring rules.

Lighting and ceiling fans are the two jobs we're asked about most, and they often happen together. Replacing halogen downlights with LED cuts the heat in the ceiling space and the running cost at the same time, and the work usually stays contained to the fittings rather than the wiring behind them.

Ceiling fans can generally go where a light fitting already sits, provided the ceiling structure carries the weight and the wiring supports a controller. Where it doesn't, a bracket fixed across the joists sorts it.

We also install outdoor lighting, sensor lights, under-cabinet strips and fans on new circuits where none exists. Fittings you've bought yourself are fine, as long as they're compliant.

Common Questions

  • Flickering across multiple rooms usually points to a loose connection at the switchboard or the main supply, rather than a fault with the individual fittings. A single flickering light is more often the fitting, the globe or a worn switch.
